Amazon is taking drastic measures to ensure that their employees are following rules related to social distancing. According to the New York Post, the company will use "an artificial intelligence-based tracking system to enforce social distancing at its offices and warehouses to help reduce any risk of contracting coronavirus."
The outlet explains that the AI intelligence, called Distant Assistant, will be set up in the warehouses and will highlight workers who are keeping a safe distance. If they are, there will be green circles; If they are too close, the rings will be red. Distant Assistant will also use camera footage in Amazon’s buildings to help identify high-traffic areas.
According to Amazon, the AI intelligence is live at a handful of locations, and they plan on deploying hundreds more in the next few weeks. They will also open-source the technology behind the system.
