That chill in the air isn’t winter; that’s the feeling of hell freezing over because Keith Richards has quit smoking.

The iconic Rolling Stones guitarist said in a new interview that he hasn’t had a cigarette since October 2019 and commented that his attitude for dropping the habit was, “Done that, been there…I think both Mick [Jagger] and I felt that on the last tour we were just getting going. We’ve got to continue this.”

Keef said in an interview with Mojo magazine last year he was trying to quit smoking and said, “Lou Reed claimed nicotine was harder to quit than heroin. It is. Quitting heroin is like hell, but it’s a short hell. I mean, the actual process. Cigarettes are just always there, and you’ve always done it. I just pick them up and light them up without thinking about it.”

Quitting smoking will likely help with Richards’ stamina, and he’s going to need it this summer when the Stones hit the road on the latest North American leg of their “No Filter” tour.
