17 Year-Old Charged In Shooting Near Brick Memorial
An unidentified 17 year-old boy has been charged with four counts of attempted murder in the shooting of a 16 year-old Brick Memorial High School student this past Tuesday. He was arrested Wednesday evening in Asbury Park, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Brick Township Police Chief James Riccio said in a joint news release.
The 16 year-old was shot Tuesday as he was walking home from school with three other friends. All four were shot at. The boy who was charged is also facing charges of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of weapon, the prosecutor’s office said. He is being held at the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.
“Were it not for the collective resolve, determination, and good old-fashioned police work displayed by all the law enforcement personnel involved in this investigation, this subject would not have been brought into custody in such a prompt and expeditious manner,” Billhimer said.
Authorities also confirmed Tuesday’s shooting was connected to a drive-by shooting on Saturday in the nearby Briar Mills condominium complex that left an 18 year-old with a gunshot wound to the leg. The prosecutor’s office did not say whether the 17 year-old is suspected of being the gunman in that shooting.
Both shooting victims are expected to fully recover from their wounds.
