Report: Eddie Van Halen Keeping Cancer In Check
Gossip web site TMZ is reporting that Eddie Van Halen has been flying between the United States and Germany “to get treatment for throat cancer.” They add that “We’ve learned he’s been doing it very quietly for years… and for the most part, it’s worked to keep the disease in check.”
TMZ’s article also says, “As for his current condition … there are lots of rumors, but people who know him say he’s seems [sic] to be doing okay — at least on the surface.”
Van Halen suffered from tongue cancer and had one-third of his tongue removed, after being diagnosed in the early 2000s.
In a 2015 interview with Billboard, Van Halen said that his cancer wasn’t actually caused by his chain-smoking. “I used metal picks — they’re brass and copper — which I always held in my mouth, in the exact place where I got the tongue cancer. Plus, I basically live in a recording studio that’s filled with electromagnetic energy. So that’s one theory. I mean, I was smoking and doing a lot of drugs and a lot of everything. But at the same time, my lungs are totally clear. This is just my own theory, but the doctors say it’s possible.”
Van Halen, who has been notoriously press-shy in recent years, has yet to release a statement on his these recent reports.
