John Mellencamp’s Home Broken Into By Man Trying to “Arrest Him”
There was a scary scene at the Bloomington, Ind. home of John Mellencamp yesterday morning (February 7) when a man drove through his entry gate and kicked down his door.
Multiple local outlets, including The Tribune, WTIU/WFIU and WISH-TV, report that Robert Carter drove to Mellencamp’s home around 6 AM and rammed his car through the entry gate. This triggered an alarm, and the Monroe County Sherriff’s Department responded to the scene.
When law enforcement arrived, Carter was found in another building on the property. Carter had also kicked in the door of Mellencamp’s main home.
As for why Carter attempted the break-in, he told police he was there “to arrest Mellencamp for supporting a government he doesn’t support.”

Carter was arrested and released earlier this week on carrying a handgun without a license.
Reports do not indicate whether Mellencamp or anyone else was home at the time of the break-in. However, Mellencamp did have a concert scheduled for February 7 in South Bend, Ind., which is well over 200 miles away. So, there’s a good chance no one was home at the time.
