‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Now Highest Grossing Music Biopic in U.S.
A month after its release in the United States, the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody has made history.
Per Variety, the film grossed an additional $7.9 million in its latest box office returns making its total domestic gross $164.3 million, which now make it the highest grossing music biopic of all time. The previous record holder was 2015’s Straight Out Of Compton, which grossed $161 domestically.
Of course, the film could soon be earning additional accolades. Golden Globe nominations will be announced on December 6. Rami Malek’s portrayal of Mercury is a shoo-in for a Best Performance by an Actor nomination, at the very least. Whether it’s in the drama or comedy/musical category is currently unknown. The Hollywood Foreign Press Asociation is infamous for their ever-changing performance classifications.
