New Doors Compilation Due Out September 15
The Doors‘ 50th anniversary celebration will continue this fall with The Doors: The Singles, a new compilation coming September 15 release in a variety of configurations — including a Two-CD set with B-sides and four mono radio versions of early singles as well as live tracks, a set with an additional Blu-ray disc that includes the 1973 set The Best Of The Doors and a 7-inch vinyl box set with 20 45s (limited to 10,000 copies), along with digital download and streaming editions.
As the title says, the album celebrates the Doors’ legacy as a singles band and, initially, teen pop idols, which guitarist Robby Krieger tells us took some getting used to:
“It was a little weird, but…I don’t think ‘Rolling Stone’ was even going at that point, was it? With Jim (Morrison) looking how he did it was a perfect thing for 16 magazine and Tiger Beat and all those types of rags, y’know? And it was kind of weird because we really didn’t think we fit into that type of deal. But, yeah, there weren’t very many rock ‘n’ roll magazines. There was one that was called Crawdaddy that was a really cool magazine that used to cover all the cool groups, and they jumped on us real early.”
The Doors began celebrating their 50th anniversary in January and also released a special expanded edition of its 1967 debut album.
