To experience the poverty and disconnectedness of the homeless, Family Promise of Southern Ocean invites you to join their Cardboard Box City event on Friday, April 28th starting at 6pm till the next morning at 7am at St. Mary of the Pines Church on 100 Bishop Lane in Manahawkin. Participants will sleep in their own constructed cardboard boxes. A light dinner, breakfast and activities will be provided.
Registration is required and pledge forms will be given to participants for raising donations for Southern Ocean County’s Family Promise, which works with local faith-based communities to provide safe, welcoming housing and supportive services, and to empower families with children to move steadily toward self-sufficiency.
Cardboard Box City provides our community’s families, civic groups and youth organizations an opportunity to experience the plight of the 430 homeless households in Ocean County, and of the 610,000 homeless people across the USA. How does it feel to wake up under the shelter of a cardboard box, a car, a campground? Homeless households right in our own community know only too well.
