My main problem with this song from The Box Tops is that it’s not long enough!
At 1 minute, 58 seconds…it’s the shortest song to ever hit #1 on the Hot 100 Billboard Chart as it did in 1967, where it spent 4 weeks.
For such a short song, it took Alex Chilton and the band THIRTY takes to create. “The Letter” sold over one million copies and in this video for the song, you see how it starts off seriously, yet the keyboard player (John Evans) starts to break the illusion that the band is playing live by staring at the camera and smiling blankly, which causes Alex Chilton to break his concentration at about :50 seconds into it.
Enjoy “The Letter!”
